Background/Overview T he Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES), Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDILmissions are to assist the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES) with recent death investigations of military and civilian personnel lost in training mishaps, conflicts, and war; and the Joint Pacific Accounting Command (JPAC) with past accounting of military and civilian personnel lost during World War II, the Korean War, Viet Nam and the Cold War. AFDIL’s research and development of novel extraction and next generation sequencing techniques for processing chemically modified samples have substantially increased AFDIL’s support of the past accounting mission. These custom reagents are needed so AFDIL can continue to support the AFMES and JPAC. This research requires kits that selectively capture defined regions of human genomic DNA through the use of thousands of customized DNA probes suspended in solution; additionally, the customized kits are compatible with the Illumina MiSeq instrument and the raw data can be assembled and analyzed in the CLCbio software The Mybaits customized target enrichment kits for next gen sequencing in use by AFMES, in the DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL). AFDIL is seeking to purchase the MYBaits customized enrichment kits for next generation sequencing from Mycroarray, Biodiscovery LLC. Biodiscovery LLC is the sole manufacturer and distributor of the Mybaits kits and is currently the only custom target enrichment ktis compatible with the instrumentation already in use.
