- Description
- Capability statement NASA/NSSC intends to issue a sole source contract to Laser Technology Associates, 28 Charles Street, Tolland, CT 06084 under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i). It has been determined that Laser Technology Associates is the sole provider of 6" Stainless 347 Nozzles, 27" Dia Freeform Nozzle and 6" Inconel 625 Nozzles. 1.Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) requires the freeform laser deposition closeout to complete the testing and meet all the inspections and joint requirements that are critical to safety margins. NASA has developed this novel closeout process along with industry partner, Laser Technology Associates (LTA). LTA uses proprietary fiber laser and wire fed processing techniques and control algorithms to enable the technology and provide robust joints. LTA is also the only vendor capable of this technology and has signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with NASA to integrate the NASA portion of the technology. The NASA developed process does not exist at any of the centers and the only vendor capable of this process is LTA. 2.This part is critical to hot-fire testing planned at NASA-MSFC in support of nozzle development using channel wall technology. This component and processing allows wall temperatures to be adequately maintained so that there are no structural failures. Without this component and process, the hardware would not survive the environment. The use of this deposition closeout process is critical since it allows the joints to be fully inspected - eliminating critical failure modes and also provides a robust joint. Failure to procure this would result in failure to test and significant schedule delays.
