- Description
- All responsible sources may submit a capability statement which will be considered by the agency. This may be the only advertisement issued to determine if sufficient competition is available. Sources interested in this requirement shall submit a capabilities statement on how they plan to meet the requirements below. Sources that adequately demonstrate a realistic capability to meet the stated requirements shall receive further consideration (i.e., solicitation and award). Background: The United States Botanic Garden (USBG) is one of the oldest botanic gardens in North America. The Garden informs visitors about the importance and fundamental value and diversity of plants, as well as their aesthetic, cultural, economic, therapeutic and ecological significance. The U.S. Botanic Garden is a living plant museum accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The U.S. Botanic Garden’s annual holiday exhibit, “Seasons Greenings”, celebrates the plant world and how humans use plants in holiday traditions. As part of the Holiday show, the garden presents a model train exhibit within a gallery space, which changes in theme each year. The USBG seeks qualified vendors who have constructed model train exhibits of similar detail and complexity. Deliverables: The vendor shall provide all necessary equipment, materials, tools, personnel, and training, to design, fabricate, install, and de-install (i.e. take down and remove) the Holiday model train exhibit within the United States Botanic Garden Conservatory. · Existing ‘G’ scale train tracks and trestles will be supplied by the USBG, but require refurbishment by the vendor. The vendor shall evaluate the tracks to determine the level of repair needed to the wooden structure or the amount of track needing complete replacement. Uneven tracks that cause derailments will require replacement. · A minimum of seven separate tracks shall fill the 2,500 square feet gallery, with 2 tracks elevated at 8 feet above the floor. The vendor shall create wooden legs and bracing to support the tracks. The vendor shall provide all trains and associated train parts and equipment (e.g. tracks, controls, reversing switches, etc.). · The vendor shall design vignettes/scenes throughout the show space, constructing approximately 30 buildings and structures that fit an approved theme. · The vendor shall use unpeeled cedar boards to form solid walls that extend from the highest elevated train track to the floor level. The cedar walls shall conceal the walls of the Gallery and form a natural backdrop for the vignettes. · The vendor shall surround the edges of the display with modular, knee-high fencing that will prevent, discourage, etc., visitors from reaching the trains or buildings. USBG staff will fill all space between the fencing and cedar walls with potted plant material. Requirements: · The trains shall run continuously at least 10 hours running time per day, 7 days a week. · In keeping with the USBG mission of demonstrating the importance of plants to the well-being of humankind, all visible surfaces of the structures must be made entirely of botanical materials, (e.g., leaves, stems, bark, and seed pods). Botanical materials may be coated with lacquer for longevity. The vendor shall provide a materials list with a concept design for each structure. · All structures shall include built in LED mini-lights with concealed wiring; all lights and wiring shall be outdoor rated for wet locations and UL listed. Place of performance: 100 Maryland Avenue, S.W., Washington, DC 20001 Period of performance: Installation period: October 30, 2017 – November 3, 2017 Removal period: January 8, 2018 – January 12, 2018 Contract Duration: The AOC is anticipating a total contract period of a base year plus four (4) 1-year options.
