- Based on questions on RFI, title "Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) Payload for Manned and Unmanned Airborne Platforms", the following is being provided: 1. For the purposes of this RFI, LIDAR Ground Sample Density is defined as the sample density of the ground (i.e., how far apart the samples are - regardless of the size of your projected beam). LIDAR Ground Resolvable Distance is how close two objects can be together before you can no longer tell them apart. 2. In determining "point rate" please only calculate using one return per pixel per pulse (as in the case of imaging a single solid surface). If your system is capable of measuring multiple returns than please describe that capability. 3. NVESD is interested in pursuing and evaluating all relevant approaches to solving this challenging problem and encourages innovation and novel approaches to any and all portions of this topic. NVESD currently plans to invite responders to this RFI for a follow up briefing on their response to this RFI. 4. This RFI is extended to 14 February 2017.
