- Description
- This is a Request for Information (RFI). The US Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) is seeking potential sources capable of providing the following R&D services: Wound Microbiome Project - Chronic Wound Metagenomics and Metatranscriptomics Studies. This R&D effort will be in support of the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) in San Antonio, TX. The goal of this study is to apply a high-resolution metagenomics strategy in conjunction with metatranscriptomics approach towards tissue specimens from chronic human wound debridement to understand the microbial ecosystem (virulence profile) present in healing-impaired wounds at the genomic and transcriptomic level. Next, the microbial profile of these chronic wound specimens, which are classified as ulcer pressure, diabetic foot ulcer, and venous leg ulcer, will be computationally correlated with the wound etiology and other clinically relevant metadata (e.g., comorbidity). Better defining the microbial composition and genotypic profile of chronic wound residents including bacteria, fungi, and viruses (microbial metagenome) via high-throughput deep sequencing will aid in defining the molecular crosstalk and interplay between different chronic wound inhabitants that result in changes in survival, fitness, or virulence; thus providing the foundation for understanding the homeostatic state and mechanisms contributing to development of chronic wounds. Moreover, identifying the genotypic features of a diverse collection of chronic wounds can ultimately lead to novel therapeutic strategies (e.g., probiotics). Metatranscriptomics profiling of the microbiota that reside in different types of chronic wounds will provide the mechanistic insight to better understand the functional characteristics of the human wound microbiome and its susceptibility to treatment. The tasks may include but are not limited to: 1. Metagenomics Study - Use the latest deep-sequencing high-throughput NGS technology, conduct whole-genome shotgun sequencing (WGS) technology to capture and characterize microbial residents of chronic wounds including fungi, bacteria, and viruses (ssDNA and dsDNA). The details of the capabilities and approaches for library preparation and NGS sequencing will be provided by the vender and discussed with ISR investigators. 2. DNA Library Preparation 3. Whole-Metagenome Sequencing 4. DNA Bioinformatics Analysis 5. Metatranscriptomics Study - Capture transcripts produced by bacteria and fungi while also detecting the presence of RNA viruses. Use RNA-Seq technology to generate a total transcriptome profile (metatranscriptome) of wound specimens to investigate dynamics of gene expression, overall pathway landscape, and the metabolome profile of the wound's microbial community. The details of the capabilities and approaches offered for library preparation and RNA-sequencing will be detailed and provided by the vender and discussed with ISR investigator. 6. cDNA Library Preparation 7. RNA Bioinformatics Analysis The Capability package shall include, at a minimum: 1. Identification of the organization name, telephone number, and point of contact (also with title, phone, and email); 2. Organization Size/ownership of business, i.e. large, small, small disadvantaged, 8(a), Disabled-Veteran, Veteran, Women-owned Business, and Hub-zone; 3. Cage Code, DUNS# and Tax ID# (TIN#); 4. Experience and familiarity with subject services with brief descriptions of relevant experience, to include scope, complexity and dollar value of previous experience. Additionally you may provide Contract references in the past five years relevant to the acquisition to include: contract number, agency supported, whether or not you were the prime or subcontractor, period of performance, original contract value, final or current contract value, technical monitor and phone/fax number, POC with current phone number, and a brief description of the effort. This RFI does not constitute an Invitation for Bid or a Request for Proposals, nor should it be considered as a commitment on the part of the Government. The information received WILL NOT obligate the Government in any manner nor will the Government reimburse companies for any costs associated with submittal of this RFI. By submitting information in response to this RFI, respondents consent to the release and dissemination of submitted information to any Government or non-Government entity for information review. As such, to the extent that any information submitted in response to this RFI is marked as, or construed to be proprietary or business-sensitive, respondents are hereby notified (a) about the potential that such information may be disclosed to third parties and (b) that submission of information in response to this RFI constitutes consent to such handling and disclosure of submitted information. The North American Industries Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 541712. The Government requests all responses to this RFI be submitted NO LATER THAN Tuesday, 31 January 2016 at 02:30PM Eastern Standard Time. All Interested parties must submit in writing (no more than 10 pages, single spaced) their capabilities information including experience and familiarity with the said services. Company Brochures may be provided but are not desired. Marketing material may be provided but is not a sufficient response to the RFI. Company brochures and Marketing material will not be included in the 10 page limit if provided. Please submit your responses via email to: david.r.daniel27.civ@mail.mil NO phone calls and/or request for a Solicitation will be accepted or acknowledged.
