Description
The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) seeks information on commercial vendors that are capable of providing a wafer scribe tool to support nanofabrication in the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST) User Facility. The tool will be primarily used for sectioning laser diodes and silicon photonics III-V chips. The tool will be used as a shared resource accessible to researchers from industry, academia, NIST, and other government agencies in the CNST NanoFab. The scribe tool is necessary to section wafer materials along specific crystal planes giving them the required electronic properties. After results of this market research are obtained and analyzed and specifications are developed for the wafer scribe tool that can meet NIST's minimum requirements, NIST may conduct a competitive procurement and subsequently award a Purchase Order. If at least two qualified small businesses are identified during this market research stage, then any competitive procurement that resulted would be conducted as a small business set-aside. 1.GENERAL a.Provide a wafer cleaving/scribe system capable of automated/semi-automated, wafer sectioning to specific dimensions using a single notch, and a line of pecks or scribe followed by an automated breaking system. b.The wafer cleaving/scribe system shall be capable of sectioning laser diodes and silicon photonics III-V chips, specifically samples that are 0.5- 2 mm wide and many millimeters long. c.All equipment and components shall be new or refurbished OEM parts. Remanufactured equipment will only be considered for award if there is manufacturer's warranty equivalent to that of a newly purchased tool. 2.BASE REQUIREMENTS a.Stage i)The system shall utilize a stage with motorized x y control. The accuracy of the motion in the x direction shall be at least 2 microns. The accuracy of the motion in the y direction shall be at least 12 microns. ii)The system shall have a standard tape and frame or tape and vacuum set up for holding wafer. iii)The system shall be capable of holding wafers up to at least 100 mm in diameter and be capable of small piece processing. b.Microscope/camera The system shall have a camera system viewing sample and setting up scribe pattern. c.Diamond scribe i)The system shall have a diamond a scribe with the ability to notch the edge of sample and place line of pecks or scribe line on a specific area of the sample. ii)The system shall have the ability to use variable scribe pressures, scribe angles and scribe heights. iii)The system shall be able to create the line of pecks or scribe line automatically. d.Automated/semi-automated braking mechanism i)The system shall have the ability break the sample along line of pecks or scribe line. ii)The system shall the ability to use variable break pressures for breaking the samples. e.Hardware/Software interface/control i)Windows 7 or later computer ii)Software to control microscope/camera iii)Software to control positioning of sample and scribe pattern, and set up scribe and break mechanism. 2.DOCUMENTATION AND TRAINING a.The system shall be provided with a complete set of operation and maintenance manuals in electronic format. b.The system shall be provided with training for at least 3 NIST staff members and process start-up support. 3.WARRANTY a.The system shall be provided with a warranty for at least 12 months, to start upon acceptance of the scribe system. b.The system shall be provided with telephone and email support for troubleshooting and maintenance by OEM factory trained personnel. NIST is seeking responses from all responsible sources, including large, foreign, and small businesses. Small businesses are defined under the associated NAICS code for this effort, 334516, as those domestic sources having 1,000 employees or less. Please include your company's size classification and socio-economic status in any response to this notice. Companies that can provide a Semi-Automatic Scribe System are requested to email a detailed report describing their abilities to forest.crumpler@nist.gov no later than the response date for this sources sought notice. The report should include achievable specifications and any other information relevant to your product or capabilities. Also, the following information is requested to be provided as part of the response to this sources sought notice: 1. Name of the company that manufactures the system components for which specifications are provided. 2. Name of company(s) that are authorized to sell the system components, their addresses, and a point of contact for the company (name, phone number, fax number and email address). 3. Indication of number of days, after receipt of order that is typical for delivery of such systems. 4. Indication of whether each instrument for which specifications are sent to forest.crumpler@nist.gov are currently on one or more GSA Federal Supply Schedule contracts and, if so, the GSA FSS contract number(s). 5. Any other relevant information that is not listed above which the Government should consider in developing its minimum specifications and finalizing its market research.
