- Since 2010, CDC has used historic passenger volumes and scheduled seat/flight capacity datasets of commercial flights worldwide to perform extensive aviation analyses. These data continue to be an essential tool in the CDC's ability to carry out the statutory responsibility for preventing the introduction, transmission, and spread of communicable disease into United States communities (42 U.S. Code Section 264). Specifically, CDC used these data to inform policy decisions intended to help protect America's borders, people, and communities especially during public health emergencies.
