Description

The purpose of this acquisition is to provide the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) with a brand name or equal iLAS TIRF/FRAP system that is required to perform single molecule TIRF/FRAP imaging experiments with homogeneous background illumination. The Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit (CBBU) performs measurements of microtubules and microtubule associated proteins and their kinetics and dynamics at the single molecule level. These measurements require precise quantification of fluoresence intensity to discern the number and identity of fluorescent molecules within a diffraction limited spot. This measurement is only valid when the illumination is homogeneous across the field of view so that intensity measurements can be comparable sample to sample and across different areas within the same sample. The iLAS TIRF/FRAP system will allow CBBU to achieve the required homogeneous illumination.
