- Description
- The Department of Veterans Affairs, San Diego VA Medical Center intends to negotiate on a sole source basis, pursuant to FAR 6.302-1, with the FujiFilms-Visual Sonics for the Vevo MD ultra-high frequency ultrasound machine. The Vevo MD ultra-high frequency ultrasound machine is the world's first and only FDA-approved ultra-high frequency ultrasound machine. It will allow us to make image human structures at ultra-high resolution and facilitate VA funded reasearch. The FDA-approved Vevo MD system will be equipped with multiple transducers ranging from 22 to 70 MHz, thus allowing for an ideal balance between image depth and resolution. Specifically, the Vevo MD system includes a 22 MHz transducer (capable of axial resolution 0.1 mm), a 48 MHz transducer (capable of axial resolution up to 0.05 mm), and a 70 MHz transducer (capable of axial resolution up to 0.03 mm). In addition to resolution, the Vevo MD system also includes advanced imaging processing technology (speckle reduction and spatial compounding), a user friendly customizable touchscreen interface (to improve workflow and reduce examination times), and full Doppler capabilities. The Vevo MD is also allows for the acquisition and easy exportation of radiofrequency (RF) data in digital format for further analysis, which is extremely useful for research applications, including tissue classification, elastography (advanced speckle tracking strain analysis), and motion recovery, potentially facilitating early diagnosis and longitudinal monitoring of disease progression for a variety of diseases. FujiFilm VisualSonics is the only supplier of an ultra high-frequency, high-resolution ultrasound imaging system for clinical research. They have patents on the manufacturing of this technology. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, any responsible source who believes it is capable of meeting the requirement may submit a capability statement to the contracting office no later than Wednesday, March 28th, 12:00, EST. Interest/capability statements may be sent to Lynn Portman at lynn.portman@va.gov. No telephone responses will be accepted. A determination not to compete the proposed requirement based upon the responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
