Description
The USGS ¿ Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center (WHCMSC) requests lease of an Applied Acoustic Engineering (AAE) Easytrak Nexus 2 Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) acoustic positioning system with high-powered directional beacons for 15 days to support a research effort aboard the University of Delaware's R/V Hugh Sharp to collect geologic and biologic samples from the Atlantic methane seeps, survey for methane seeps, and acquire seafloor imagery and bathymetry. The USBL acoustic positioning system is required to navigate a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) that will be used to collect biologic and geologic samples and seafloor bathymetry. The required service is for satellite data collection and location processing. Tags and animal tagging will be provided by USGS. The USGS will notify the awarded company of the tags to be tracked by providing tag number, since each PTT (Platform Terminal Transmitter) tag has a unique identifier and a transmitter with a predetermined frequency that enable equipment on polar orbiting TIROS (Television Infrared Observation Satellite) satellites to receive, identify, and calculate location on the surface of the Earth using shifts in the Doppler frequency. Utilization of satellite-linked GPS tags is now an operational part of our research program. Research involves tracking the movement and habitat use of threatened and endangered marine turtles, crocodilians, and birds in Florida, the Bahamas, Mexico, Cuba, and the U.S. Virgin Islands (and surrounding countries) and necessitates the use of satellites which provide 24-hour coverage of animal movements. Also tracking the movement and habitat use of manatees in Florida, The Bahamas and throughout the Caribbean. The ROV system will be leased by one of the collaborators (co-PI) and operated by Oceaneering International Inc. The USBL acoustic positioning system requirements: 1.AAE Easytrak Nexus 2 USBL acoustic positioning system with high-powered directional beacons - 15 days: 2.AAE Model 2692 Easytrak Nexus 2 Console with Spread Spectrum technology - (Supplied with built-in PC running Windows, keyboard and mouse. Includes Easycal calibration software. Operates from 90-250 VAC. 2 U rack-mount. Accepts separate GPS, Gyro and VRU inputs. Ethernet and serial outputs.) 3.AAE Model 2686 Easytrak Nexus 2 Transceiver - Multi element transducer fitted to ali bronze housing. Powered from and connects to the Nexus 2 Console. Supplied with built-in compass, pitch/roll sensor, temperature sensor and pressure sensor. 0.2% of slant range accuracy, tracking range 995m 4.AAE EZT-NC50-NEX 50 meter Nexus Deck cable c/w connector 5.AAE 1035H Spread Spectrum Midi-beacon (TWO EACH) - Output source level 203dB with a +/- 45 degree beam pattern, and depth rated to 4000m. Supplied with protective sleeve and transducer protection cage. 6.AAE Model 1082 Smart Switch - Programmer and charger for 1000 Series beacons 7.Installation All interested firms shall submit a response demonstrating their capabilities to perform the requested item to the primary contact below. Firms responding should indicate whether their socioeconomic status (e.g. small business, service disabled veteran, woman/women owned, HUBZone, etc.). The Government ¿s evaluation of the capabilities of respondents will factor into whether the forthcoming solicitation will be conducted using full and open competition or as a set-aside for small businesses or small business designation. This requirement is expected to result in the award of a firm-fixed price contract. This acquisition is a total small business set-aside. The NAICS code is 334511. The size standard is 1,250 employees. Any information submitted by respondents to this sources sought synopsis is voluntary. This sources sought notice is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government, nor will the Government reimburse any costs associated with the submission of information in responses to this notice.
