The Pod is attached to the centerline under the fuselage of the F-16 aircraft and is subject to wind buffeting, to mechanical and acoustical vibration, mechanical shock, temperature extremes, fuel & hydraulic fluid intrusion, and sometimes impact with tarmac and concrete surfaces. The external surfaces of the Pod provide protection from these elements but are themselves subject to high speed impact of airborne debris, insects, birds, sand, etc. as well as foreign objects and debris picked up from the runway.
