- NMNH Southside Improvements - Synopsis v.1 April 26, 2017 Solicitation: RFP F17SOL10027 Agency/Office: Office of the Chief Financial Officer Location: Office of Contracting Title: Smithsonian Institution - National Museum of Natural History Southside Improvements Description: The Smithsonian Institution intends to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to General Contractors to construct National Museum of Natural History Southside Improvements including construction of new accessible switchback walkways at the south entrance of the museum; snowmelt system on walkways; renovation, restoration, and refurbishment of all stone and metal elements at steps, plazas and portico; installation of new windows and doors; renovation and waterproofing of vault space under stone steps; cladding of new walkways in Lake Placid thermal finish granite; fabrication and installation of decorative walkway rails in tombasil white bronze; extensive civil and landscape work; and installation of a new Air Handling Unit for the nearby Baird Auditorium. The value of this scope of work is estimated to be $18M. The RFP is anticipated to be available in mid-May. Interested companies must meet the following minimum qualifications in order to be considered: a. Have worked on three projects of similar size and complexity involving significant renovation to historic structures such as museums, libraries, and archive buildings; b. Contractor's team must have demonstrated expertise in mechanical renovations; historic stone cleaning and restoration; civil and landscape work; high quality stone and metal work; exterior windows and doors; and metal restoration; and c. Proven track record of quality construction work, experience working in an occupied facility and with a challenging schedule. Proposals will be due 60 days after issue of RFP. Requested materials must be submitted by the deadline in order to be considered.
