- Description
- RFI Attachment 2 RFI Attachment 1 RFI The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, MD hosts a central repository of multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs). Isolates sent to the WRAIR from Department of Defense (DOD) Medical Treatment Facilities (MTFs) and other non-DOD MTFs throughout the world. On Sept 18th, 2014, the President of the United States announced a mandate to create an inter-agency Combating Antibiotic Resistant-Bacteria (CARB) task force. According to this mandate, government agencies must catalog and test MDROs for antibiotic resistance patterns and ascertain as much related information, such as mechanism of resistance and types of carried resistance genes, as possible. This is best accomplished through high-throughput sequencing of individual MDRO isolates. Prior to sequencing, isolates must be processed and nucleic acid material extracted using commercialized-off-the-shelf nucleic acid library construction kits.
