Description

Approved Justification and Approval TSA requires services associated with the following: blast mitigation testing; assessing potential terrorist threats and risks to passenger railcars; testing scenarios recommended from the risk assessment on passenger railcars, light rail, transit, and commuter cars; identifying and testing mitigation measures for railcars, and including them in a blast test model; developing blast test model software; and examining damage to associated infrastructure including a rail tunnel and tracks. This capability represents a significant impact to TSA mission stakeholders because it allows for quantification of the vulnerability of commuter, transit, and light railcars and associated infrastructure damage caused by of the use of explosives. This vulnerability assessment leads to more accurate modeling of railcar structures for mitigation of potential terrorist threats.
