- Description
- This is a notice of intent to increase the ceiling of Contract N66001-15-C-4017 to University of Utah, awarded by SSC Pacific on behalf of the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency Biological Technologies Office (DARPA/BTO) on 5 February 2015 for a base period of performance of 18 months followed by one (1) 30-month option and one (1) 12-month option. The effort under the contract supports the DARPA BTO Hand Proprioception & Touch Interfaces (HAPTIX) program and proposes to pursue fundamental research regarding technological developments and functional investigations to restore dexterous, intuitive motor function and cutaneous and proprioceptive sensory function after hand amputation. The effort shall develop motor decode algorithms and sensory encode algorithms for improvements to the Utah Slant Electrode Array. Based on the success to date of hardware and algorithm development additional biofidelic sensory encoding will be added, as well as new lead wire bundles for the Utah Slant Electrode per FDA requests. With these additional tasking FDA approval and thus transition of this technology to the warfighter and public is more achievable. The NAICS code for this procurement is 541711- Research and Development in Biotechnology. Due to the nature of Research and Development efforts, DARPA could not have reasonably estimated the results of the research from this program, which has seen breakthroughs that will benefit from continued trials under this current contract. It is expected that the technology will transition for use by the warfighter. This action includes a ceiling increase of approximately $399,947. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals or quotes and will be posted for 15 days. A determination by the Government not to compete based upon response to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Interested parties may submit comments in writing to the Contract Specialist, Ms. Veronica Velarde, Code 22530, SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific who may be reached by telephone at (619) 553-7734 or via email to veronica.velarde@navy.mil.
