Description

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Covaris, Inc. for the M220 Focused-ultrasonicator which can do the following: 1) It is a single unit with a small footprint (12"Wx17"Dx10"H) that operates outside of the human audible sound range, not requiring ear protection or placement in an enclosed structure. 2) Performs focused sonication in the ultrasonic range (500-1500kHz) allowing for fast, continuous, real-time isothermal processing which is important as longer treatment times introduce heat into the system which will affect the integrity of the samples. 3) Processes very small sample volumes with sample input flexibility. 4) It is a closed system that doesn't require additional personnel contact with the sample once processing begins thus limiting cross-contamination between samples. 5) Computer controlled with easy to use software that doesn't require user programming 6) Allows for continuity and sharing of data between our laboratory and collaborator's laboratories as this is the CDC standard for mechanical shearing of DNA This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1).
