Description
The Naval Medical Research Unit No. 6 (NAMRU-6) is looking for capable sources for a study in the region of Vitoria, Brazil with a large trajectory of research in infectious and tropical diseases, mainly in viruses, for a collaborative research effort to execute the study entitled: "Surveillance of blood transfusion transmission of Zika and other arboviral diseases via asymptomatic blood donors at local blood banks in South America". This study is aimed at assessing the safety of the blood supply in an established ZIKV transmission, and to inform ZIKV transmission prevention efforts from asymptomatic blood donors to uninfected populations by conducting surveillance of adult blood donors at a local blood bank in Brazil. The blood samples obtained from individual blood donors at the local blood bank will be screened for the presence of ZIKV. If capable sources are not identified through this notice, then NAMRU 6 intends to award a sole source contract under the authority of 13.106-1(b)(i) to Nucleo de Doencas Infecciosas(NDI).
