Description
The Department of Veterans Affairs, Charleston VA Medical Center intends to pursue a sole source procurement in accordance with FAR 6.302-1 for the Indus Instruments MouseMonitor Telemetry System. The purchase is for a small implantable rechargeable wireless telemetry system capable of recording body temperature, activity, heart rate, and a continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) biopotential (i.e. the ECG strip recording) in mice and rats. This system will integrate with their current phenotyping system in order to provide data measuring the direct physiological effects of testing on each individual animal. The small wireless telemetry device needs to be surgically placeable in the abdomen of small animals (rodents) weighing greater than 20g, and should have a rechargeable onboard battery to allow for continuous data recording for the length of our experiments. The telemetry data will be imported into their Noldus system software to be co-registered with other specific activities of the given animal. The use of the Small Animal Physiological Core in combination with a wireless telemetry system, will provide a heretofore unattainable level of integrated, complex, physiological readouts, that will enable us to determine the impact of various interventional methods, (i.e. transgenic models and treatment with small molecular compounds) on overall health (exercise tolerance, hemodynamics, recovery) in small animal models of disease. The Indus Instruments MouseMonitor Telemetry System is the only system capable that meet the required salient characteristics: Device MUST be able to measure temperature, activity, heart rate, and a continuous ECG biopotential Device MUST be small in size (volume of <2.0cc) so as to be implantable within the abdomen of a mouse Device MUST record and transmit data wirelessly to a base station connected to an analysis computer Device MUST utilize a unique ID number so that multiple animals can be housed together (up to 5) in a single cage, and multiple cages can be tracked independently (up to 100 animals simultaneously) Device MUST have sufficient memory (at least 1 Gb) to store more than 3-days-worth of data to span periods when downloading is not possible (weekends, holidays) Device MUST have an integrated battery that can last up to 5-days on a single charge Device MUST be wirelessly rechargeable to allow for long-term longitudinal studies (greater than 1-year) Device MUST be fully reusable following careful extraction and resterilization This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, any responsible source who believes it is capable of meeting the requirement may submit a capability statement to the contracting office no later than July 28th, 12:00, EST. Interest/capability statements may be sent to Lynn Portman at lynn.portman@va.gov. No telephone responses will be accepted. A determination not to compete the proposed requirement based upon the responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
