- Description
- The Naval Postgraduate School Department of Computer Science has a requirement for Hirschmann Modular Gigabit Ethernet Rail Switches and PowerMICE as specified below. The purpose of the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Security Lab is to support teaching and student research on ICS security concerns, including: software subversion via inappropriate use of portable memory devices, perimeter security to prevent unauthorized traffic between the ICS networks and external enterprise networks, authentication and replay protection of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) messages, cryptographic key management for multicast communications, continuous monitoring and real-time analysis of the ICS environment. Direct access to authentic ICS equipment is considered a prerequisite to meaningful ICS-related work in which students will be involved in the future. Major elements of the ICS Security Lab are intended to mirror equipment used in the Machinery Control Systems (MCS) testbed at the Naval Ship Systems Engineering Station (NAVSSES) in Philadelphia, PA. Equipment currently in use in the NPS ICS lab reflects specifications provided earlier by a NAVSSES subject matter expert, and the requirements for additional equipment have been stipulated by the current National Security Agency research sponsor with the objective of providing compatibility with those earlier choices. This will enhance harmonious operation of the composed elements. It is essential that brand name specific equipment items be acquired so that they can be successfully integrated into a harmoniously executing totality; the interfaces and protocols must interoperate.
