Facility Description: United States Air Force Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) National Full Scale Aerodynamics Complex (NFAC) located at NASA Ames, Moffett Field California, is the largest subsonic wind tunnel in the world and provides critical aerodynamic test and evaluation (T&E) data necessary for flight and ground vehicle development. Powered by six 22,500-hp motors, airspeeds as high as 300 knots can be achieved. The motors push air through either of two test sections measuring 40-ft x 80-ft and 80-ft x 120-ft via air flow diversion vanes and louvers. The rotor test apparatus (RTA) is a key rotorcraft testing capability at NFAC. The current high RPM configuration is detrimental to small diameter rotors. The replacement motor specified will replace the existing speed increaser gearbox of the RTA. AEDC his limited drawings of the existing motors since they were built in the 1940's and are missing nameplates. A complete Request for Information with attached draft technical specification is included with this notice as an attachment. Please reference the attachment for details of our information request.
