Description
SLAC is conducting a market research for a pulsed fiber-based timing synchronization system for the LCLS-II facility. The timing system will be used by LCLS-II to synchronize the high-repetition rate x-ray pulse train (>100 kHz) to several pump laser systems distributed across the facility. The required timing jitter of the synchronization is less than 10fs. A fiber-based timing scheme with similar jitter specifications has been implemented at the free electron laser facility FERMI (M.B. Danailov et al., Opt. Express 22 12869 (2014)). The core fiber-based timing system should include the following: • 1x optical master oscillator with built-in fast piezo for fast repetition rate tuning and slow tuning mechanism for coarse repetition rate adjustment to an external RF signal. • 4x fiber stabilization units to actively control the transmission drifts of the fiber system to within 5fs RMS • 1x optical cross-correlator to synchronize the master oscillator signal to a Ti:Sa oscillator (800 nm) Based on our understanding of the state-of-the-art of the field, we expect some R&D efforts to develop more advanced capabilities needed for this project. These capabilities are listed below. Please comment on the vendor ability to develop: • 1x optical cross-correlator to synchronize the master oscillator signal to a Ti:Sa amplifier (800 nm). In this case pulse picking down to 100 kHz is required. • 1x optical cross-correlator to synchronize the master oscillator signal to the x-ray pulses. This unit will require amplification of the master oscillator light to generate supercontinuum. Pulse picking down to 100 kHz is also required. • Integration of the fiber-based timing system with an external ATCA control architecture. Please provide details about the control system used by the vendor. For this request please also provide background information about the vendor and their strategy and credentials to match the specifications requested, as well as any recent development that may be relevant to this project. Please indicate if there are legal restrictions for your company to sell any of these products in the United States. This is not a solicitation for proposals, proposal abstract, or quotations. Further, SLAC, at this time, is not seeking proposals and will not accept unsolicited proposals. The purpose of this request is to obtain information regarding the availability and capability of all qualified sources. Any price/cost information requested by SLAC will be used for budget estimate purposes only. • Cost of RFI Response Preparation: SLAC will not reimburse any vendor or respondent of any cost associated with preparing a response to this RFI. Responses the RFI will not be returned to respondent. • Proprietary or Confidential Information: Any information contained in the response that is proprietary or confidential must be clearly designated. All information received in response to this RFI that is confidential or proprietary information must be clearly designated as such, and will be handled with due care and proper consideration of ethical and legal ramification and governmental regulations. • Amendments/Specifications: SLAC reserves the right to change the Request for Information timeline or other portions of this request at any time. • Right to Cancel: SLAC reserves the right to cancel or reissue this Request for Information any time without obligation or liability. • No Obligation to Buy or Issue Solicitation: SLAC will not contract any vendor as a result of this Request for Information. While SLAC may use responses to this request to draft a competitive solicitation for the subject of these services/products, issuing this request does not compel SLAC to do so. SLAC is asking for pricing, production, and delivery information as described in the Material Pricing Sheet attachment, included with this RFI. Please list any assumptions or information of a material nature in your response that would significantly impact price and/or delivery. Please submit your response in the format provided (Material Pricing Sheet). In addition to the Material Pricing Sheet provided, the pages in your response should not exceed five (5) pages. If a respondent opts not to respond to any item(s) in the Material Pricing Sheet, please note as such and, if possible, include an explanation for your non-response. SLAC is requesting your response by close of business 18 August 2017 and it should be submitted via email to the undersigned below.   Information provided in response to this request will not be considered when evaluating proposals received in response to any future solicitation.
