Description
The purpose of this amendment is to post the government s responses to the questions submitted. All other terms and conditions of the previously post Combined Synopsis Solicitation remain unchanged. Q1) What is the process for the Cleveland VA remaining compliant with the FDA s recommendations regarding Sling Care with the use of a Spray-Wipe Able Patient Sling? A) We use a multidisciplinary approach, including our Wound Care and Infection Control department, to ensure that the products we request are appropriate for our Medical Center. Although the FDA provides recommendations regarding launder able slings (not spray-wipeable ones) in their Patient Lift Safety Guide, they also state: This guide provides general safety recommendations and is not a replacement for the manufacturer s instructions. Refer to manufacturer s instructions for specific use guidelines. We make sure to comply with the manufacturer s instructions. Q2) What is the process for the Cleveland VA ensuring a manufacture remains compliant with this FDA recommendation regarding Sling Care & Achieving a Safe Level of Disinfection ? A) In order to ensure proper methods of cleaning any equipment, including lift slings, is performed and that a safe level of disinfection is reached, we consult our Infection Control Department, and our Medical Center Policies 011-056 and 118-036, which states items that come in contact with intact skin, but not with mucous membranes These items can generally be disinfected at point of use with a hospital-approved disinfectant (HAD) when visibly soiled, and not sent to SPS unless they are grossly soiled/contaminated. Manufacturer s instructions for use (IFU) for the item to be cleaned/disinfected should be followed to assure the appropriate process and cleaning/disinfecting agent are used. Follow contact time per manufacturer label of the disinfectant used. Be sure patients do not touch surfaces being disinfected during the cleaning process. Any organic matter or visible dirt must be removed with a general cleaning agent prior to disinfection. Any non-critical RME used in an isolation room must also be cleaned prior to disinfection. The FDA s recommendation does not refer to spray-wipeable slings, and is a recommendation. It directs caregivers to refer to the manufacturer s instructions. Q3) What is the Cleveland VA s approach regarding this FDA statement: Do not share Slings between patients unless slings are properly washed and disinfected. The disinfection is described as a spray and scrub. A) We do not use slings on more than one patient if they are not properly disinfected. Q4) I am curious if the elastic strap feature applies to all slings in the RFQ? A) The elastics strap feature has been requested in an effort to eliminate the tripping hazard associated the slings currently utilized at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.
