- Vicinity Map Expanded Description of Work DESCRIPTION OF WORK and PROJECT LOCATION 1) Perform approximately 2295 acres of cultural resource survey, utilizing a maximum of 30 meter wide pedestrian transects, within the survey parcels shown on Map 2, the project area map (shapefiles of survery parcels are available). The project is located at: T25N R8E (sections 2-12, 14-16, 18-20, 22-23, 29, 32-33) and T26N R8E (sections 29-35) and can be located on the Dixie, Five Mile Bar, Silver Spur Ridge and Mackay Bar, ID (1995) 7.5' topographic maps. 2) Record all new cultural resources found, update 7 previously recorded sites, and evaluate each new/updated cultural resource for its National Register eligibility on a new site form. The project area is known to posses many historic mining related sites and features. Additionally, numerous historic mining sites and features are anticipated to be located and in need of documentation. At this time, there are no prehistoric/precontact Native American site types known to occur in the proposed project area. 3) The results of the above field work are to be included in both a draft and final professional inventory report and site forms summarizing all aspects of the inventory, site-update work, findings, and relevance for greater archaeological interpretation/association and scientific understanding. The survey area is located in and around the community of Dixie, Idaho approximately 80 miles SE of Grangeville, Idaho. The Dixie Work Center area is about 5 miles southwest of Dixie as shown on Map 1. The project area is characterized by relatively thick lodgepole pine forest with ocassional dense brush vegetation and some mineral soil visibility. Travel time from Grangeville to the project area (Dixie, Idaho) is approximately 2 ½ hours. Road and trail access is shown on Map 1, the project vicinity map. Road access to the project area is relatively good (Road 222, 222 D, 311, 311 A, and 1188). Other portions of the project area can be accessed by Forest Service trails #211, 212, 220 and 234.
