In order to do so crystals formed by such molecules and their complexes are subjected to X-ray diffraction and the structure can be computationally determined from the measurement of the diffracted X-ray beam. This quantitative measurement is achieved by using X-ray detectors, and it is paramount that these detectors are able to measure all the available X-rays with accurately and at high speed for efficiency.
