- Description
- RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS SUBMITTED. NOAA'S RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS SUBMITTED Q. How many samples will there be? A. Up to 500 per year Q. The SON says the samples will be dried ground and weighed. Does this mean NOAA will weigh the amount needed for analysis (specified by us) into the tin capsules ready to go into the instrument? A. Yes, NOAA will send all samples already loaded into tin boats. All lipid extraction and liophilization will be undertaken prior to submission of samples Q. Our stated standard deviation for 15-N is 0.3 per mill and while we frequently get a standard deviation of 0.2 or less for an individual run we cannot guarantee it for all runs. Does this disqualify us from consideration? A. SD of 0.3 is acceptable Q. Will NOAA provide replacement samples if technical difficulties require that samples be re-analyzed? A. Often there is only a very small amount of sample collected due to collection permit requirements. At times we may have additional sample to analyze, however this is not always the case. Our experience with our current SI lab, that we have used for the last 15 years, has been that there are very few occasions for which reanalysis is necessary. Q. Do we have to use acetanilide as an internal standard for each run or may we use another material? A. You can use another standard as long proof of its consistency is provided. Q. Does NOAA also want carbon and nitrogen concentrations? A. NOAA wants delta values for both C and N as well as elemental concentrations for both. This is the case for all samples to be analyzed. Q. Will the samples be encapsulated/pre-weighed upon delivery? A. Yes If not, -Could you please provide a description of each sample types upon reception (i.e. will they be frozen or dried, pulverized, needing lipid extraction, etc.)?
