Source Pre-Award Qualification Requirements PRE-AWARD SOURCE QUALIFICATION STATEMENT UH-1N TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY REPAIR NSN: 1615-01-061-6615GA RMSC C: This part requires engineering source approval by the control activity to assure the integrity of the part. Alternative sources must pre-qualify by submitting a Source Approval Request (SAR) in accordance with (IAW) AFMCI 23-113 and the design control activity's procedures and receive approval from the applicable government engineering activity, AFLCMC/WIUED (Huey Helicopter Engineering Section). SECTION A: ITEM IDENTIFICATION Stock Number (NSN) Part Number Nomenclature Tech Order* 1615-01-061-6615GA 212-040-001-111 Transmission Assembly 3R7-2-6-3 Transmission assembly (P/N 212-040-001-111) provides a drive angle change and speed reduction from the engine to the main rotor. This is accomplished through spiral bevel gears and two stage planetary gears. Secondary gear trains drive the tail rotor driveshaft, transmission oil pump, tachometer generator, two hydraulic pumps and the rotor brake drive quill. The transmission main input quill incorporates a one way clutch which permits the transmission and the components that it drives to overrun the engine and main driveshaft. This provides for a free drive system during autorotation. In the event of a failure, the structural integrity of the drive system would be compromised and could result in potentially catastrophic loss of main rotor and inability to drive the tail rotor. This item is a Critical Safety Item (CSI) and Critical Application Item (CAI) with catastrophic failure consequences. This item is identified as a Flight Safety Part on the drawing, with multiple critical characteristics identified. Failure of this dynamic component could result in the loss of aircraft, severe injury or loss of life. Sources must have quality procedures and processes to ensure that each item is in compliance with the technical order. Outstanding quality and thoroughness of the overhaul and repair is required. The overhaul of these components will require the contractor to conduct inspection/functional checkout and disassembly/assembly to restore them to a serviceable condition end item that shall efficiently serve their intended purpose using the USAF Overhaul and Repair technical manual listed in Section A above. Therefore, repair and overhaul sources must qualify in accordance with the appropriate Government engineering activity, AFLCMC/WIUED Engineering office, Robins AFB, GA. Additionally, the qualification procedures must be approved by AFLCMC/WIUED Engineering office. T.O. 3R7-2-6-3 provides essential information to accomplish repair and maintenance functions on the Transmission Assembly.
