Description
The Smithsonian Institution intends to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to General Contractors to revitalize the West Court at the National Museum of Natural History. The objectives of this project are to remove the Imax Theatre, renovate existing food service, and construct additional food service facilities. The scope of work anticipates interior demolition, new floor infill to match existing, construction of a new second floor shell space, commercial kitchen renovation, installation of related equipment, re-configuration of existing servery and back-of-house, new millwork, terrazzo flooring, MEP modifications, warewashing, and installation of new storefront system. The value of this scope of work is estimated to be $7.5M to $8.5 M before options. The RFP is anticipated to be available in mid-September. Interested companies must meet the following minimum qualifications in order to be considered: a. Have worked on three projects of similar size and complexity involving significant renovation within museums, libraries, and archive buildings; b. Contractor's team must have demonstrated expertise in selective demolition, carpentry, commercial kitchen renovations, terrazzo and resinous flooring, food service millwork and modifications to building systems including HVAC, electrical and plumbing; and c. Proven track record of quality construction work, experience working in an occupied facility and with a challenging schedule. Proposals will be due 42 days after issue of RFP. Requested materials must be submitted by the deadline in order to be considered.
