Description
The U.S. Geological Survey Library seeks to purchase 100 reprints of Frontiers in Ecology and Environment, in which USGS scientists submitted journal articles, published by the Ecological Society of America. This special issue will include a series of papers that explain, exemplify, and delineate paths forward for the theory and practice of translational ecology, an emerging field that is at the heart of the National Climate Change and Wildlife Science Center and the DOI Climate Science Center enterprises. The special issue is guest-edited by senior staff of the Southwest Climate Science Center and a Principal Investigator of that Center. Authors of papers in the special issue include scientists from several CSCs (Northeast, Southeast, Alaska), as well as many university and USGS scientists working closely with the CSC network. The special issue showcases, among other things, several recent or ongoing CSC projects, using them to demonstrate core principles and practices of translational ecology. This will advance the practice of climate adaptation, climate science, and science-informed natural resource management. The USGS is aware of no other source that can provide the above. Therefore, it intends to make an award to Ecological Society of America, unless it is contacted by any vendor who believes they can provide the same service. Vendors are invited to contact the Contract Specialist, Nicole Demby (ndemby@usgs.gov) no later than 2:00PM EST, Thursday, September 7, 2017 with an affirmative answer. SOLE SOURCE JUSTIFICATION STATES THE FOLLOWING PART: The following information is provided to demonstrate the proposed contractor ¿s unique qualifications: USGS scientists are encouraged to publish their data and findings in ways that contribute to the most effective dissemination of USGS science and that best enhance the Bureau ¿s reputation for reliable science. Our scientists submitted journal articles to Frontiers in Ecology and Environment and articles were edited and accepted by Frontiers in Ecology and Environment, so the only way for us to view and obtain reprints is from the journal published by Ecological Society of America. The proposed action may be awarded on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1) ¿ only one source reasonably available. This is a Proprietary source because the USGS scientists ¿ articles were submitted to only this publication.
