- Description
- The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Multifunctional Materials Branch (MMB) in the Material Science and Technology Division seeks multi-disciplinary support of basic, experimentation and engineered systems related to materials science and engineering mechanics. The MMB is responsible for a wide spectrum of basic and applied research to further understand the interplay between structural and functional properties of metal alloys, ceramics, and composites and to develop and optimize advanced multifunctional materials for Navy applications; and to establish a technology base to promote rapid insertion of advanced multifunctional materials into Navy systems by developing predictive models, materials, and devices characterization techniques, and nondestructive evaluation methods for materials and structures. The scope of work is to conduct scientific, engineering, technical and analytical Research and Development (R&D) for a wide range of NRL research projects supporting the Navy's corrosion mitigation, coatings, environmental and prevention programs, in the following areas: (1) Advanced Navy Materials, (2) Personal Protection Equipment for Navy Applications, and (3) Technology Transfer, Field Demonstration, and Engineering. A complete Statement of Work will be available as part of the solicitation. It is anticipated that a Cost Plus Fixed Fee type contract will be awarded as a result of this solicitation. The period of performance shall extend from date of award through one year with two one-year options. The work shall be performed at NRL. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the agency. The Government does not intend to use the procedures as outlined in FAR Part 12 for this acquisition. The NRL uses electronic commerce (EC) to issue requests for proposals (RFPs) and amendments to RFPs. Paper copies of the RFP will not be provided.
