Description
Mesh-run engineering geometry models TECHNOLOGY/BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY SIMREV: Simulation Revision Enabling Design Collaboration with Rapid Turnaround Opportunity : Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS), LLC under contract no. DE-AC52-07NA27344 (Contract 44) with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is offering the opportunity to license its Simrev software tool for commercialization and use. Background : Collaborative product development groups face high costs if they (or their customers) make any changes to the engineering models. Engineers often recreate an entire model whenever a different input is desired or if there are changes to parameters that affect other parts of the model. This is a common issue that increases the cost of non-recurring engineering and redesign in projects. Most codes allow a single user to create a script and reuse work to a limited extent, but do not offer the revision and collaboration benefits of LLNL's Simulation Revision Enabling Design Collaboration with Rapid Turnaround (Simrev) software. Simrev solves the inflexibility inherent in the finished product of simulation processes and the difficulty of allowing more than one engineer or analyst work on a given problem. Description : Simrev is a software tool to utilize modeling and simulation to optimize product development and risk management. The Simrev tool shows great promise for maximizing the parallelization of the product engineering design phase. Simrev facilitates model development for engineering simulation codes. Simrev enables an engineer to decompose their physical system into a computer program that describes assemblies, parts, materials, boundary conditions, and contact interfaces; provides an organizing framework for geometry and meshing with the cubit python interface; and handles mesh export, input deck translation, and batch job submission. Currently, Simrev has been used to develop models that run in ALE3D, ParaDyn, NIKE3D, and Diablo. After the engineering analysis problem has been mapped to a computer program, the program can be put in version control and changes tracked as the simulation is revised and work is distributed among engineering analysts. Advantages : Simrev is a value-added technology for end users who collaborate during product design and development who use advanced engineering simulation codes. The competitive benefits of LLNL's Simrev include: Enabling all engineers to work on the same model. This reduces rework, speeds modeling development time, enables version control, and ultimately reduces the NRE/R&D costs of product development. More easily uses massively parallel computer horsepower for model development and simulations, either internal on high performance computing clusters in a company or available in the cloud. Allowing engineers to easily change parameters and run analysis repeatedly. This allows for quick turnaround for design questions and more resources for "what if" scenario development that can lead to unexpected innovations in the product development process. Potential Applications: Simrev is ideally targeted for applications for modeling and simulation engineering by end users in consumer products, automotive, aerospace and civil research, development and engineering organizations. Existing modeling software vendors may be interested in Simrev in order to integrate it into their product offerings. Service providers may also be interested in using the tool in their commercial offerings. Development Status: Currently, Simrev has been optimized to run models in LLNL's specialized engineering codes that are not distributed to the public. A company commercializing the software will need to integrate Simrev into other commercially available engineering modeling/simulation codes, or establish a business relationship with LLNL to enable model runs using LLNL's codes. Both add a unique value that a commercialization partner can offer to users. A webinar on Simrev was launched https://ipo.llnl.gov/technologies/individual-tech-discovery&p=simrev LLNL is filing a copyright, patent application and trademark for this code. LLNL is seeking industry partners with a demonstrated ability to bring such inventions to the market. Moving critical technology beyond the Laboratory to the commercial world helps our licensees gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. All licensing activities are conducted under policies relating to the strict nondisclosure of company proprietary information. Please visit the IPO website at https://ipo.llnl.gov/resources for more information on working with LLNL and the industrial partnering and technology transfer process. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in commercializing LLNL's Simrev: Simulation Revision Enabling Design Collaboration with Rapid Turnaround software tool should provide a written statement of interest, which includes the following: 1. Company Name and address. 2. The name, address, and telephone number of a point of contact. 3. A description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to commercializing this technology. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships Office P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO 309-16 Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest in LLNL's Simrev software tool.
