Eye Clinics, both Ophthalmology and Optometry, need to photo document a variety of diseases. This has long been considered standard of care in ophthalmic practice. The clinical trials for diabetic eye disease all utilized standard photographs and fundus images for monitoring and grading the severity of diabetic retinopathy. Many of the glaucoma clinical trials also utilized stereo photographs of the optic nerve to monitor for progression and help diagnosis early glaucoma, looking for subtle changes over time. It is extremely important for our eye clinic to have a fundus camera for patient care, but it also puts our clinic on a level playing field with other hospital teaching programs. Optometry interns and residents, as well as ophthalmology residents, all spend time training at this hospital and our teaching programs continued success is vital, satisfying the VA mission of education and learning. More specifically, the brand name Carl Zeiss Visucam is recommended in preferred for integration capabilities between our visual field instruments for glaucoma care and Carl Zeiss Forum software. The Carl Zeiss Visucam would allow patient care to be optimized since fundus photos could be visualized on any PC desktop and in any patient exam room. 3. Minimum salient characteristics. The fundus camera must provide a 24-megapixel sensor produces brilliant, detail-rich images to effectively aid in diagnosing and monitoring a broad range of eye diseases from glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy to AMD. The software must allow the fundus photos to be visualized on any PC desktop and in any patient room. 4. Specific Tasks.
