- Description
- The Astromaterials Curation Office has the delegated authority from NASA HQ (per latest version of NPD 7100.10) to curate all extraterrestrial materials under NASA control. Curation includes documentation, preservation, preparation, and distribution of samples for research, education, and public outreach for all current and future sample collections. With the charter to curate all future collections, NASA's work in the field of Advanced Curation has begun with a primary goal of expanding the sample processing and storage capabilities of NASA's curation facilities to prepare for future sample return missions as well as maximizing the science returns of our existing sample collections. Both of these goals are aimed at improving the core functions of protecting the integrity of NASA's astromaterials collections and serving as distributors of astromaterials to a global community of sample scientists and educators in a fair, timely, and responsible manner. Procurement of an anaerobic chamber will benefit these advanced curation activities by allowing us to work with sensitive materials like meteorites, lunar samples, planetary simulants, and anaerobic microbes in an oxygen free environment. The Astromaterials Curation Office requires an anaerobic chamber for the purpose of handling sensitive samples in an oxygen free environment. The item must meet all of the following requirements: 1. Capable of maintaining an atmosphere with <5ppm O2 and low humidity with continuous monitoring. 2. The complete item shall include a dual entry airlock, 4 sets of quick-change latex gloves, a stainless steel, static free work pan, a gas infuser, a dehumidifier, shelving units and a portable workbench. 3. The entire item must be compact and fit inside at 98" X 38" footprint 4. The power supply must interface with a 208V or 120V outlet (NASA's house power) or provide for a transformer to interface with NASA's house power as part of the system. 5. Readily available commercial-off-the-shelf. 6. Lead time within 8 weeks.
