Description
Project Maps Potential chainsaw timber stand improvement work to take place in 2018 on the Modoc National Forest, Devil's Garden Ranger District. A full solicitation is anticipated closer to the project start date. The purpose of this early notice is to alert interested parties of the requirement and allow site visitation in advance of winter weather when the area roads become impassable. Exact contract start date is dependent upon site conditions and award may be made in advance of spring thaw. Thus, interested parties are strongly encouraged to visit the site in advance of winter weather. The solicitation will be set aside at least to small business, and may be further set aside to a specific type of small business concern. Project Description: All work will be performed in Streamside Management Zones (SMZ's), in various locations on the Devil's Garden Ranger District. All areas have been previously logged. (See Maps) The majority of the work will be the felling, limbing and lopping of juniper from 6" to 24" in diameter within the SMZ's. Ponderosa pine is also within the SMZ's and anything under 10" diameter will be thinned to a 25' spacing. Pine that has been damaged or is unhealthy will also be felled that is under 10" diameter. All felled trees will be lopped into 8' lengths, limbed and slash hand piled outside of the high water mark of the SMZ for future burning. Stump height no taller than 6" on the uphill side with all live branches removed from the stump. Piles will be compact, less than 6' in height and at least 20' from any standing live or dead tree. Trees that are flagged delineating the unit boundary but meet cutting specifications shall be cut according to specs. Unit 28 F in North Springs will require some of the existing downed trees within the SMZ removed to the outside of the SMZ. This is a black stain area where trees have fallen into the SMZ and are inhibiting the flow of water. The trees would be removed and laid outside the high water mark. There are a few walk-in units so please take a look at them...most areas are not very large. Some areas have smaller juniper and pine 1" dbh and less that will require lop and scatter on them if they are close to the SMZ boundary. Contract time: 10 days Estimated start date: May 1, 2018 Interested parties may indicate their interest by email to Tracy Marino at tmarino@fs.fed.us. No proposals are requested at this time.
