Description
I am having trouble adding an attachment with the Responses to the Questions. Please see below the responses to the questions. Data Recovery Questions-Responses INU-17-017 1. Q - Do the drives power up and spin at all? A - Some do, others do not appear to. With the damage to the server, it is unknown if the backplane is still working correctly. 2. Q - What error are you getting when trying to access? A - The raid controller can't find the disks. There is no error code. 3. Q - Were the drives/server submerged in water for a long period of time, or just exposed to water? A - Based on residue on the equipment, an unknown amount of water and particulate debris found its way into the servers through rooftop leaks. This was all dried out before we were allowed into the affected area to assess damage. 4. Q - Do you think that the drive/s will need to be opened-up in a clean room and repaired first? A - Due to the nature of the water and foam fire suppression systems involved, this is a possibility. 5. Q - Or - will we be able to use forensic tools to image and recover lost/damaged data? A - There is visible corroding on the drive controllers. Software tools might not be sufficient. 6. Q -If a clean room will be required for this recovery/repair - can we sub the clean room portion to our vendor? A - All involved parties must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. 7. Q - What brand/model server did these drives come from? A - Dell PowerEdge 510 8. Q - What is the raid controller brand/model? A - PERC H200i 9. Q - What operating system with pertinent patches or service packs is on these drives? A - Windows Server 2012 R2 current to the time of disaster. Though the array needing recovery is a DATA only drive. OS partitions are on another Array. 10. Q - What is the purpose of the server with the drives (file server, etc.)? A - Lenel Network Video Recorder. 11. Q - What is the capacity of drives? A - 2TB 12. Q - What are the brand/model of the drives? A - Seagate Part# ST32000644NS 13. Q - Are the drives used in a virtual environment? If so, what is the virtualization (hyperV, etc.) A - No 14. Q - If only able to recover partial, is this an option? A - Any data recovered is better than nothing, although specific camera feeds from the times immediately preceding the system damage are the goal. We understand that that level of targeting granularity is not something you can provide.
