Description
Title: NHLBI Cardiothoracic Surgical Back-up Coverage The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) anticipates posting a request for proposal (RFP) seeking contractor support to provide cardiothoracic surgical back-up coverage, on or about November 15, 2017. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), Cardiovascular Intervention Program performs approximately seven to fourteen cases annually of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) - a form of treatment for stenotic coronary arteries commonly associated with coronary heart disease - on patients in the NIH Clinical Center (CC). Although uncommon, major procedural complications associated with PCI can be life threatening and require immediate, invasive surgery. Neither the NHLBI nor the CC has a full-time cardiothoracic surgeon capable of responding to such emergencies. For this reason, the CC requires the NHLBI to have an agreement with a local medical center which ensures around-the-clock access to a qualified cardiothoracic surgeon to perform emergency surgery on NHLBI's PCI patients. To comply with CC policy, the NHLBI requires around-the-clock cardiothoracic surgical back-up coverage for its patients undergoing PCI treatment. Should an emergency occur with a patient, the NIH will transport the patient from the CC to Contractor's facilities where the patient will receive complete medical attention from Contractor's medical staff including any emergency surgery necessary to resuscitate the patient. This announcement is not a request for proposals and although one award is anticipated, the Government is not committed to award a contract pursuant to this announcement. The RFP will be available on FedBizOpps and FedConnect. Prospective offerors are responsible for downloading the RFP and all attachments. It is also the offerors' responsibility to monitor FedBizOpps for the release of any amendments to the RFP. This acquisition has been designated as full and open competition under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 622110.
