- Description
- The US Air Force's Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) releases an Award Notice for the Long Duration Propulsive Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) Secondary Payload Adapters, or LDPE. The foundational technology for the LDPE is the EELV Secondary Payload Adapters, or ESPA, which is an Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) initiative to host auxiliary payloads on primary spacecraft launch missions. LDPE is intended to entail, and support, Mission Risk Class C and D missions; Class B payloads on LDPE would be the exceptions. However, LDPE is also intended to be co-manifested with Class A/B missions for launch, therefore "Do No Harm," and supporting safety and risk processes shall assume satisfaction of both these standards and levels during all phases of work. There are three major phases of effort defined for the LDPE: Phase-1, LDPE Platform Assembly, Integration, and Test; Phase-2, Payload Integration & Test (I&T), and Launch Vehicle Integration Support & Launch Support; and Phase-3, Early Orbit Checkout and On-Orbit Support.
