- 1. WORK SUMMARY The contractor shall inspect the area where the water softeners are located and perform each of the following: 2.1 The contractor shall work with the VA Technical Representative to ensure the tank(s) to be worked on are properly isolated before breaking any sealed openings. 2.2 The contractor shall remove the existing resin IX beads from the tanks and replace them with new IX beads, the same or equal to the type removed (Aldex C800 Softening Resin Beads). 2.3 The contractor shall remove the existing gravel bed from the tanks, and replace them with new gravel bed media, the same or equal to the type removed. 2.4 The contractor shall inspect the existing piping at the bottom of each tank and determine if replacement of the piping is required or not. 2.4.1 If the contractor determines that the piping does not need to be replaced, work will continue with no delay. 2.4.1 If the contractor determines that the piping does need replacing, the VA Technical Representative will be informed of the extent of replacement and will examine how the piping is to be replaced and who can conduct the work. 2.4.2 If the contractor determines that the piping does need replacing, work to replace the gravel bed and resin beads will stop until directed to continue, by the VA Technical Representative. 2.5 The contractor will be responsible for all materials and labor required to conduct the job outlined in this statement of work. 2.6 The contractor is responsible for disposal of all materials removed from the softeners and any debris created during the job. 2.7 The contractor shall be responsible for performing the scope of the work in accordance with all Federal, State and Local regulations. 2.8 Upon completion of the work, a water quality test shall be performed on each water softener to ensure the efficacy of the new IX resin and gravel bed. 2.9 Before work on the second softer begins, the first softener must be turned over to the VA. 2.10 The Contractor shall be responsible for performing the scope of the work in accordance with all Federal, State and Local regulations. 3 SCHEDULE The complete project shall be completed in 5 business days. The Contractor shall attend a mandatory pre-construction meeting before starting work and the VAHCS will schedule the meeting. Removal and replacement of the beads and gravel bed shall be completed during normal business hours, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Work outside these hours is possible, but must be coordinated with the VA Technical Representative.
