- SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS (ROLLERS) The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Maritime Puget Sound is issuing this sources sought notice as a means of conducting market research to identify parties having an interest in, and, the available resources to support, a requirement for a roller assembly. The type of roller assembly being requested includes the following salient characteristics: All shall support at a minimum half of the entire weight of the maximum weight of 110,000lbs shaft, while the shaft is rotating and keeping roller pressure less than 45,000 psi (0.01% deformation pressure for Mil-S-23284 Class 3 shaft material). Rollers mounted on the slideways shall have a 63RA or better finish,.0002 Total Runout, with carburized and hardened surfaces to RC 58-60, with.060 case depths. Rollers shall have a 20 -32 acceptability and proportioned to provide adequate weight distribution and stability for Shaft O.D. range. Bearing surfaces shall be forced lubricated by a manual oiler. A means of lubricating all rollers shall be provided. Range and capacity of all Rollers shall conform to Shaft range, O.D. 20 -32 inches . Rollers will be designed to hold in a fixed position at any location along the lathe slide-ways. The Roller assemblies shall be tracked along the slide-ways and positioned manually be a means such as a rack and pinion mechanism connected to a drive. Rollers that can perform the following functions in accordance with the provisions of 1.)Adjust the vertical height of the work piece. 2.)Adjust the lateral position of the work piece. 3.)Support turning and milling operations of the work piece. Rollers shall be capable to lift and longitudinally position a shaft synchronized, and also being capable of independent control without a shaft. Rollers shall be capable of traversing the full extent of the working area. A positive means of locking the longitudinal positioned shall be provided. Roller Assembly will have means to vertically lift a shaft. The lift mechanism shall have a vertical travel of +/- 2 about the shaft centerline. The lift mechanism shall be independent of the roller steady adjustment. Lift mechanism shall be capable of synchronized and independent control of the vertical adjustment. A positive means of locking the vertical lift shall be provided. The roller assembly will be used at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard located in Bremerton, WA. This requirement will be procured with a firm fixed price contract. The results of this market research will contribute to determining the method of procurement.
