- Sources Sought: NB686050-18-00317 Status: Open Item: Fast, arbitrary waveform generator with high resolution and high bandwidth for controlling superconducting quantum circuits Classification Code: 59- Electrical and electronic equipment components. Post Date: 12/12/2017 Close Date: 12/15/2017 File Name: NB686050-18-00317/ Fast, arbitrary waveform generator with high resolution and high bandwidth for controlling superconducting quantum circuits Contact Points: Dennis Fuentes, Contracting Officer (303) 497.5573, dennis.fuentes@nist.gov The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) seeks information on vendors that are capable of providing a Fast, arbitrary waveform generator with high resolution and high bandwidth for controlling superconducting quantum circuits as described in the draft specifications. The purpose of this notice is to identify organizations capable of providing the necessary item and meeting the minimum contractor qualifications. This announcement is not a Request for Proposals or Quotes (RFP/RFQ) and does not commit the Government to award a contract now or in the future. The information contained in this notice is DRAFT only and as such, is subject to change prior to issuance of a solicitation. No solicitation is available at this time. After results of this market research are obtained and analyzed, NIST may conduct a competitive or non-competitive procurement and subsequently award a contract. NIST will use the results of this sources sought notice to determine whether to proceed on a sole source basis or competitively if it is determined that other vendors could potentially meet NIST's needs. This requirement is assigned a NAICS code of 334516 with a small business size standard of 1000 employees. Interested business organizations that believe they are capable of meeting the requirement should submit electronic copies of their capability statement. Please limit responses to four (4) pages or less. Responses should include the following information: 1. Name of company that will provide product. 2. Name of company that will manufacture the product. 3. Spec sheets and examples of products that meet the specifications. 4. Typical lead time to deliver the product after receipt of order. 5. Any other relevant information that is not listed above which the Government should consider in developing its minimum specifications and finalizing its market research. Any proprietary information should be so marked. The written capability statement should be received by the Contracting Officer no later than 11 a.m. MST Friday, December 12, 2017. The capability statement shall identify the business status of the organization. No quotes will be accepted at this time and will not be considered. Draft Specifications Fast, arbitrary waveform generator with high resolution and high bandwidth for controlling superconducting quantum circuits REQUISITION NUMBER: NB686050-18-00317 BACKGROUND The Advanced Microwave Photonics Group performs highly sensitive experiments using high speed modulation of microwave fields at cryogenic temperatures on superconducting quantum circuits. These experiments require a 2-channel fast, arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) with high resolution and high bandwidth. In addition, we require a convenient "eXtensions for Instrumentation" chassis format that doesn't require an embedded pc controller, but simply an adapted external pc interface. This allows us to use a single pc to control this AWG along with other equipment necessary to operate the superconducting quantum circuits. Some of the main features we require are that the AWG have at least 2 channels, 12 Bit Resolution, 12 GSa/s, a Sin(x)/x roll-off at -3 dB of > 5 GHz at the maximum sample rate, effective output frequency switching times of < 1 nanosecond, and full sequencing capabilities so that we can successfully generate the necessary microwave pulse sequences with the resolution required for proper control at the frequencies required for the operation of the superconducting quantum circuits (> 2 GHz). TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Below is a list of the technical requirements: • 2 channels, SMA connectors • Sample rate of 125 MSa/s to 12 GSa/s with 12 bit resolution per channel • Sample rate of 125 MSa/s to 8 GSa/s with 14 bit resolution per channel • Sin (x)/x roll-off (at -3 dB) of >3 GHz @ 8 GSa/s • Sin (x)/x roll-off (at -3 dB) of >5 GHz @ 12 GSa/s • Doublet capability to apply microwave tones > 5 GHz per channel. • Effective frequency switching time < 1 ns (Fast frequency switching capability) • 2 GSa memory per channel • DC-coupled amplifiers on both channels with single-ended or differential output, with single-ended (50 ohm) amplitudes to 1.0 V peak-peak with an output voltage window -1 V to +3 V and transition times (20%/80%) < 60 ps. • AC-coupled amplifiers on both channels with single-ended output, with (50 ohm) amplitudes to 2.0 V peak-peak with a 3 dB maximum bandwidth of 5 GHz, harmonic distortion < -37 dBc for output from 100 MHz to 5 GHz, measured for DC to 5 GHz, and amplitude flatness < +/-3 dB to 4 GHz. • Sequencer software with an API compatibility with Matlab • Digital up-conversion to carrier frequency capability • Both channels can be used in a fully phase coherent "coupled" mode • An "eXtensions for Instrumentation" chassis format that doesn't require an embedded pc controller, but simply an adapted external pc interface. DELIVERY We require delivery of these items within 60 days ARO.
