- Description
- This amendment to the RFI extends the due date to Dec 22 2017. This amendment also incorporates industry questions and responses to those questions. What is the number of staff logins (librarians and paraprofessional library staff, VALNET-wide) you would require for Alma, for purposes of Circulation, Cataloging, Acquisitions and system administration? We will need unlimited administrative logins that do not need to be specific to modules. What is the current number of unique e-journal titles you subscribe to (VALNET-wide)? (this would be a comprehensive count to include all centrally managed titles as well as additional titles managed by the various locations, it may be possible that you can get this number from Serials Solutions Resource Manager) The number of e-journal titles subscribed to is not relevant. VALNET have typically not cataloged journal titles in their OPACs. If there are some that exist in OPACs, these should be imported during the implementation process along with all other MARC records. There will be no sweeping import of titles from VALNET s Serials Solutions accounts. How many researchers do the VALNET libraries typically support with electronic resources/OPAC access? Please clarify this question what is meant by researchers? Why is this relevant? Can you tell us what the 10 library systems in use today by the VALNET libraries are? These are the systems that are present in our self-reported VALNET chart: EOSi, CyberTools, LibraryWorld, Sirsi Horizon, Sirsi Symphony, InMagic, Mandarin M5, ResourceMate, Innovative Interfaces, Sierra, and Innovative Interfaces, Millennium. You mention that no library collection is larger than 10,000 items. Would it be safe to say that the entire collection of the VALNET libraries combined would be roughly 1,160,000 physical items? VALNET collection size: FY16 roughly 500,000 Do you plan to manage acquisitions centrally or will various locations require their own acquisitions capabilities? Each library will have unique control over every aspect of their ILS Under Modules: Acquisitions, one of the requirements is the ability to create and maintain Archival Appraisal records. Please describe how this works in your current system(s). Please disregard this will not be included in any future statement of work. Due to the high volume of bids our team is working on, we wonder if you would be willing to extend the deadline until Friday, December 22nd. Yes In preparing our response, we wanted to clarify what you are looking for with pricing. Are you looking for one system with all of the VA libraries using it? (i.e. one database) NO Or are you looking for each VA library to have its own system/database? Yes. A single independent stand-alone for each library (pool of 116) that includes the ability to view each others OPACs. And depending on which option you select, what are you looking to see regarding pricing? We are looking for a network price for as many or as few libraries that want to participate. We do not have the authority to make anyone switch to the nationally funded purchase of an ILS, so if they decide to keep/fund their own, or that they do not need an OPAC, the total number of participants will be impacted. We also have perhaps 10 libraries out of the pool of 116 that I can safely say will not require an OPAC. The network pricing will include the option to add/delete/and then maybe add again any specific site during the length of the contract. Because we have several possible ways of configuring a system with multiple libraries and physical locations, we re asking the following: We do not want a system configured with multiple libraries. We want X number of independent stand-alone ILS systems, one for each library in VALNET that chooses to participate. We noticed that VALNET s libraries are currently using ten separate ILS systems. It is important for us to understand how the various VALNET libraries share records, administrative duties, and services today and how they would like to work together in the future. Again, we are wanting independent ILS systems, one per library. They will not share records, administrative duties, etc. The only option we will require is that each library be able to see each others OPAC holdings. Note that the following information is shared in a single Alma institution: user management, vendors, licenses, metadata management, configuration, integrations, resource sharing partners. Please review this short document on the Knowledge Center explaining topologies: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/Alma_Online_Help_(English)/Getting_Started/030Alma_Topologies In general, can you provide us with a better understanding of how the libraries in your network currently share configurations, policies, records, and processes such as acquisitions? Are there subgroups in the Network that collaborate, and if so can you list them for us here? In order for us to provide a budgetary price for the Sources Sought notice, it would be helpful to have a high level understanding of this.. Again, we are wanting independent ILS systems, one per library. They will not share records, administrative duties, etc. The only option we will require is that each library be able to see each others OPAC holdings.
