- Description
- The FAA has an upcoming requirement for emergency transceiver radio (ETR) units that provide both Very High Frequency (VHF) and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) operation for air traffic control (ATC) in the event of a catastrophic failure (facility fire, bomb threat, severe weather, etc.). The transceivers would replace normal ATC terminal environment functionality during the critical 60 minutes after such an event. A market survey was conducted in 2016 followed by a market survey refresh and draft SIR which were posted in June 2017. The FAA anticipates to release the final Screening Information Request (SIR) in April 2018.
