- Attachment 3-Dredging Quantity Table Attachment 2-Rock Groins Plans Attachment 1-Plans Synopsis: THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION FOR PROPOSALS AND NO CONTRACT SHALL BE AWARDED FROM THIS SYNOPSIS. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), Galveston District, is requesting input from government, industry, and others parties for an upcoming dredging project. The Corpus Christi Ship Channel, Texas Channel Improvement Project Entrance Channel Extension is a project that proposes the deepening and extending of the existing channel, dredging from station 70+00, just bay side of the Port Aransas Ferry Landing to -330+00, some 7.6 miles into the Gulf of Mexico. The contract involves the complete clean out (maintenance material) of the existing channel (47/49 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW)) template and the construction (new work) of the new channel (54/56 feet MLLW) template. All maintenance material from the existing project template will be dredged and discharged into Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site ODMDS Placement Area 1. This volume is estimated to be 844,042 cubic yards (CYDs). The construction of the new deepening and extension of the channel (authorized depth and advanced maintenance) is estimated to generate 4,458,250 CYDs, with allowable over depth estimated at 986,647 CYDs. Approximately 2.6 million cubic yards of new work material is required to be placed into ODMDS Navy Homeport and the estimated 2.8 Million CYDs is required to be placed in Beneficial Use Site MN. The disposal sites for the new work material are required per National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other Federal laws, changing the disposal sites is not an area of consideration for cost/time savings. The estimated completion time for this contract is 600 calendar days. The dredging plant type is not being specified for this Request for Information. However for planning purposes in responding to this RFI, please be aware that, the National Marine Fisheries Service Biological Opinion limits the use of hopper dredges for the dredging of New Work material from mid-November (November 15th) to mid-April (April 15th). Therefore, hopper dredges may only be utilized during this time period. Information derived from a recent side scan sonar and sub-bottom profiler indicates the likely presence of rock along the San Jose side of the channel, mostly on side slope between Station 25+00 to -5+00. All geotechnical information the Corps has is displayed on the project plans.
