- Description
- Product Specifications Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is seeking an alternate source for Linear Alky Benzene (LAB). This product will be used as a feedstock for a process that will ultimately produce a liquid scintillator for use in scientific detectors. While there is no currently no anticipated requirement schedule, successful testing could result in a demand of 20-40 metric tons. BNL is currently seeking one (1) 55 gallon barrel, or similar quantity, of material for processing and testing. Post purchase processing would include further refinement of the material to reduce undesirable background components and then doping with small quantities of reactive materials. The end product has to be optical clean (attenuation length at >10m), high light-photon yield (9000 optical photons per MeV), and low radiation background (<10^-15 U/Th g/g). Long term stability of the product is also a key consideration and will be monitored over a minimum of 6 months to 1 year. The preferred source will have a mature process for the production of LAB with consistent feedstock sources. Please refer to Enclosure No. 1 for the product specifications.
