- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) # 2018-N-67815 on FedBizOpps on or after April 9, 2018 for services in support of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), Bacterial Special Pathogens Branch (BSPB) to obtain required services to perform wide scale environmental sampling in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) and laboratory testing to identify the geographic prevalence and genetic types of high consequence pathogens endemic to USVI. The Government expects to solicit full and open competition. In general, the contractor will provide support in the following areas: 1. Collect ≥ 400 soil samples and ≥ 100 water samples from around the USVI in areas deemed highly favorable as habitats for B. pseudomallei. Sites to be sampled will consist of all regions of the islands to ascertain presence. 2. Culture the environmental samples in conditions optimal for the recovery of pathogens. 3. Extraction of DNA from isolates of B. pseudomallei and other Burkholderia spp. at a purity and quantity (minimum of 15 ug) in Tris-HCl without EDTA to enable whole genome sequencing using the PacBio method at CDC. 4. Transfer of all isolates and DNA from B. pseudomallei recovered. The resultant contract is expected to be a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contract awarded on or before September 30, 2018. The term of the contract is expected to be for a base of (1) year with (1) 12 month option period. The applicable NAICS code is 541380 with a size standard of $15 Million.
