- Document Type: Notice of Intent to Sole Source Solicitation Number: FDA - Sole Source - 1195418 Posted Date: 27 March 2018 Response Date: 3 April 2018 NAICS Code: 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing, Small Size Standard 1,000 Employees. The Food and Drug Administration intends to make a sole source award for Service Contract for a Bio-Rad dd PCR System in the amount of $45,276.00. The award will be made to: Bio-Rad Laboratories Life Science Group 2000 Alfred Nobel Drive Hercules, CA 94547 In accordance with FAR 6.302-1, Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. Scientists are using the BioRad QX200 Digital Droplet PCR System for quantification of viral and bacterial foodborne pathogens. Digital Droplet PCR can detect rare DNA or RNA target copies, and resolve copy number variation with superior sensitivity and resolution. In addition, inhibition is a common issue for detection of foodborne pathogens from complex food matrices. With low level, viral contamination, inhibition could mean the difference between detecting and not detecting foodborne pathogens in samples. BioRad's Droplet Digital PCR technology reduces bias from amplification efficiency and PCR inhibitors. Because of this sensitive technology, annual maintenance and calibration of this instrument in imperative to ensure quality results. Bio-Rad is the sole source for service for QX200 Digital PCR system. Bio-Rad Laboratories sells instruments that are highly technical, carefully engineered products. Bio-Rad has specialized engineers officially trained and authorized to repair and provide service and parts for these systems. No other entities or individuals receive the extensive training provided by Bio-Rad for repairing these instruments. Due to the nature of these instruments, only a factory-trained representative should provide any required service. Unauthorized persons making adjustments or repairs may invalidate a Bio-Rad warranty or Bio-Rad Service Contract Agreement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible sources may submit a capability statement within five (5) days after the publication of this synopsis which shall be considered by the agency. Responses received after 5 days or without the required information may not be considered.
