Description
Request for Information for MK 104 Dual Thrust Rocket Motors Demilitarization This Request for Information (RFI) is the initiation of market research under Part 10 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). This notice neither constitutes a Request for Proposal, nor does it restrict the Government from an ultimate acquisition approach. This notice should not be construed as a commitment by the Government for any purpose. Requests for solicitation will not receive a response. All information is to be submitted at no cost or obligation to the U.S. Government. The U.S. Government reserves the right to reject, in whole or in part, any input as a result of this market survey. The U.S. Government is not obligated to notify respondents of the results of this survey. If a formal solicitation is generated at a later date, a solicitation notice will be published. No award will be made as a result of this market survey. The Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division (NSWC IHEODTD) has a need to remove and demilitarize a certain quantity of expended MK 104 Dual Thrust Rocket Motors. Given the material composition and existing configuration of some of the motors, disposal has been a challenge. The rocket motor propellant is AP based, the older rocket motors contain asbestos filled polyisoprene insulation liner, and several aft-sections of the motors contain thoriated tungsten inserts near the exit cones. In addition, there are other motors that pose an easier disposal route (non-thoriated sections removed, no propellant residue, no asbestos). Supplemental information related to the chemical and material composition of the rocket motors is provided as supplemental information to this synopsis and will be distributed under US DoD Distribution Statement D. All interested sources shall provide the organization name, address, a point of contact, phone number, e-mail address, business size, taxpayer identification number, DUNS number. Please identify your Company's CAGE Code. In addition, all interested sources shall provide a summary of their company's capabilities to remove and demilitarize the rocket motors. All responding sources must email their submission to Robert Cook at Robert.g.cook2@navy.mil and CC to: John Butz at john.butz@navy.mil. Replies must be received no later than May 4 2018. Technical questions regarding this RFI may be directed to the individual cc'd above. Large files need to be compressed using WinZip (http://www.winzip.com).
