Description
This is a notice of intent, not a request for a quotation. A solicitation document will not be issued and quotations will not be requested. The Government intends to award a fixed price order to Fenwal, Inc., Lake Zurich, IL 60047. The Department of Transfusion Medicine (DTM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center (CC), Bethesda, MD has a requirement to procure the service listed below: Fenwal - Amicus Maintenance Agreement Product Code 4R4580. (6 apheresis machines). The DTM is a unique blood center which collects blood and blood components from healthy donors to patients participating in many protocols. However, blood and blood products are also withdrawn from patients when prescribed by a physician, which may have a therapeutic benefit to treat their medical condition. These six (6) apheresis machines are used to perform extracorporeal therapy in which the blood of donors or patients is passed through the device to separate blood components. Numerous regulatory authorities, specifically the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and American Association of Blood Bank (AABB) set policy and enforce this policy for care and maintenance of equipment this is used, in support of donors and patients per the above. The service agreement is to provide annual and periodic preventative maintenance for six apheresis machines. The agreement covers maintenance and associated repair costs. These apheresis machines are used in that patients and/or donors are connected, ie, hooked up to these instruments to perform extracorporeal therapy in which the blood of donors or patients is passed through the device to separate blood components, including collecting haematopoietic stem cell for transplant, leukophereis, erythrocytopheresis, plasmapheresis, red cell and plasma for memoval in the body. All of which of life preserving and life extending therapy for NIH patients. Without the agreement, repair costs may exceed the lifecycle value of the machine. Additionally, there is no other known company that can provide the breadth and depth of knowledge to properly service this specialized Amicus apheresis instrumentation because the vendor, Fenwal, manufactures these. It is not safe to experiment with other vendors when patients are connect to these machines. This company has trained experts to provide maintenance and service under this agreement.
