- THIS IS A MARKET RESEARCH/SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE SEEKING INFORMATION ONLY. NO QUOTES WILL BE ACCEPTED. This is a Sources Sought announcement only seeking responses in order to determine participation in this acquisition. The 355th Contracting Office, Davis-Monthan AFB (DMAFB) intends to procure CLIN 0001: (QTY: 12 EA) Search and Rescue Ball Part #9427487-2/3 OR EQUAL Description: “Search and Rescue Ball 9427487-2/3 Red/Green. Features: Visibility approximately 3 nautical miles at 5,000 ft; Omni diretional; Impact resistant to 30 mph; Approximately 45 kph; Operational to -40F; Multifunctional; Easy battery change; NVG compatible; Rigged for Mil-spec battery packs. The sphere is made from two clear polycarbonate domes clamped together. Each half is totally self-contained and consists of 2 EL lamps, 3 driving inverters and one 13.5 battery. All components are cushioned for shock inside a dense polyurethane foam core. Each sphere, with battery, weighs 11.8 lbs and is 12 inches in diameter at the ring. The equipment comes with a MS 24656-211 toggle switch. Either steady of flashing modes of light may be selected by the three-position switch recessed into the outer surface of each half of the ball. A steel band that wraps around the shell provides a secure anchor for any standard drag chute, as well as a back-up watertight seal. Each half is sealed on its own. The sphere may be split into two identical halves to aid in outlining a safe landing area. In addition by combining red and green halves, a dual use unit can now provide excellent visibility to the naked eye from the green portion, which is not visible to NV goggles, and the red portion which is highly visible with NV goggles.
