Description

CASS Generators Solicitation Suspense: 11 July 2018 1) The Centralized Aircraft Starting System (CASS) provides 400 Hertz power and volume air to start and power the T-38 aircraft to support the T-38 flying mission. CASS consist of two motor driven generators and four air compressors that supply 400 Hertz power and volume air to the T-38 flight line. The windings are now shorted in both CASS generators and no 400 Hertz power is available for the T-38 flight line. Portable -86 generators are available to temporarily supply 400 Hertz power on the flight line but have to be prepositioned and moved to the next aircraft launch spot which ties up additional personnel, congests the aircraft parking ramp taxi ways increasing the chance of a mishap and increases -86 generator fuel consumption. 2) In addition to the above, replacement motor driven generators or equivalent are needed to restore 400 Hertz power to the T-38 flight line to support the T-38 flying mission. Restoring 400 Hertz power to CASS frees up personnel, decongests the T-38 parking ramp taxi ways and decreases -86 fuel consumption.
