Description
The High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) is hosting an Industry Day in support of the DREN4 acquisition. The HPCMP is investigating the capabilities available for implementing the Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN), a component of the HPCMP. DREN provides high performance wide area network services including cybersecurity in support of the Department of Defense (DoD) scientists and engineers. DREN is a sophisticated, robust, high performance communications network that incorporates the best capabilities of both DoD and the commercial telecommunications infrastructure. DREN is DoD's premier Wide Area Network (WAN) communication service provider for research, development, test, evaluation, and acquisition engineering. DREN enables scientists and engineers at defense laboratories, test centers, universities, and industry sites throughout the United States to use HPCMP computing resources. DREN provides secure gateways to existing Federal and civilian networks, allowing access to the program's resource centers from a wide variety of facilities. The network links customer sites to HPCMP's DoD Supercomputing Resource Centers (DSRCs) and Affiliated Resource Centers (ARCs). Additional background material on HPCMP can be found at The networking services of DREN are currently provided by a virtual WAN built on a commercial communications network and provide digital data transfer services between defined Service Delivery Points (SDP) that comprise DREN. SDPs are specified in terms of bandwidth requirements, physical interface, and transport protocols. DREN's Internet Protocol (IP version 6 and version 4) service for video, audio, imaging, and digital data connects to other research and academic networks at private and public Internet Exchanges (IX). As of 2017, DREN has a mix of approximately 180 sites at 50 megabit per second (Mbps) through 40 gigabits per second (Gbps) rates. The HPCMP will continue to upgrade DREN by establishing connectivity at new sites, increasing bandwidth at existing sites, as well as inserting technology across the network. The DREN4 Industry Day will consist of a HPCMP presentation on the DREN Program. The DREN4 Industry Day will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 starting at 8:30 AM Eastern Time (ET) (registration begins at 8:00 AM ET). The DREN4 Industry Day will be held at the Harbour View, 13200 Marina Way, Woodbridge, VA 22191. Attendees will need to report to the 2nd floor lobby and after registration will be directed to Sewall's Point Ballroom. Attendees will need to show a U.S. Government-issued ID and be U.S. Citizens. Opportunities for private discussions will be afforded to those requesting same on July 11 and 12 at the HPCMP offices in Lorton, VA. Due to security requirements, all requests for one-on-one sessions must be received by the Contracting Officer no later than Friday, June 22, 2018, to include list of attendees. The Government plans to record the Industry Day event on July 10, 2018. A DRAFT Performance Work Statement (PWS) will be posted on or before Friday, June 22, 2018. Questions regarding the PWS may be submitted to the POCs listed below. All questions are due by Monday, July 2, 2018 at 5:00 pm (ET). The HPCMP will address questions submitted during the question and answer session at the Industry Day. Questions and answers will be posted to FedBizOpps after the Industry Day as well. Companies who wish to attend the DREN4 Industry Day should RSVP no later than Friday, June 22, 2018 at 5:00pm. To RSVP email Kelly Smith (kelly.j.smith132.civ@mail.mil) and Amber McKee (amber.m.mckee4.civ@mail.mil). https://www.hpc.mil. DREN4 Industry Day Slides and Video are available upon written request to Kelly J. Smith, at kelly.j.smith132.civ@mail.mil
